Silicon Carbide
Silicon Carbide (SiC) materials exhibit superior mechanical, wear and thermal shock resistance properties which provide excellent seal and bearing performance for heavy duty applications.
Morgan Crucible have had a long history and experience of manufacturing SiC materials. MTC Stourport extends this expertise and material development to provide medium to high volume products for an increasing market requirement
Silicon Carbide is available in two basic forms, reaction bonded and sintered. There are also various sintered derivatives. Two primary sintered grades are available from MTC
Alpha sintered Silicon Carbide
Its combination of high hardness, strength and temperature resistance gives it excellent capabilities in a wide range of applications where chemical and abrasion resistance, high speeds and pressures are required, such as used in heavy duty pump radial and axial bearings
Graphite loaded sintered Silicon Carbide
A sintered Silicon Carbide composite containing free Graphite. This improves lubricity for greater dry running survivability and better thermal shock resistance than conventional sintered materials. Increased PV (pressure-velocity) capability between hardface mating pairs due to the presence of Graphite provides the recommended solution for many types of hardface rotary pair sealing applications.
