Magnesia

Dense Magnesia (Magnesium Oxide) is not normally used as an engineering ceramic. However, lower density Magnesia, for example with 30% porosity, is used in a variety of applications due to its electrical and refractory properties.

Typical characteristics include:

  • High temperature capability
  • Low electrical conductivity
  • High thermal conductivity
  • Good corrosion resistance
  • Infrared transparent

Typical applications include:

  • Heating elements
  • Thermocouple tubes
  • High temperature crucibles
  • Kiln furniture
