Project Management

Graham Eaves

Project management is an essential tool to ensuring the on-going success of our business. The primary challenge is to achieve all of the project goals and objectives while adhering to classic project constraints — scope, quality, time and budget.

The key to success is being able to ensure a standard and logical approach is followed:

  • One project management procedure for site (clear structure)
  • Standard documents in-place (set guidelines to follow / standardisation / history – to improve further)
  • Weekly project management meetings – (across both business unit)
  • Visible system that is open to all elements of the business (management & measurement)

‘Are We Ready?' is a project management tool that was developed by Stourport to ensure a structured and repeatable approach to new business introduction.

A cross functional team systematically take ownership for EH&S, systems, equipment maintenance, production, quality, and training matters relating to the performance of the new product, process or area.

  • The question ‘Are We Ready?' is asked at each stage of the project, with the team declaring their developing state of readiness for production, up to the point of wanting to start volume production.
  • Since the original concept, the process has been developed to suit the Project management needs of Stourport and throughout MTC
  • The ‘Are We Ready?' process has been used on all of the Key step change projects at Stourport
  • Stourport adopts the ‘Are We Ready?' philosophy as part and parcel of normal project management activity which ensures a structured approach to project control
  • The ‘Are We Ready?' approach is being used at every level within the business, on a variety of different projects
